A team of UBC students, including Rozina Khoja (Integrated Sciences), Ish*ta Sharma, Brett Caswell, and Perry Lawrence, recently travelled to Toronto to represent the university in the final round of the Innovation North Student Challenge. Sponsored by ATCO, the national competition invites students to use systems thinking to explore complex Canadian issues, with this year’s challenge focused on rethinking housing in Canada.
In the final round, the team was recognized with 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑶𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒅 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅, one of three awards available. The award celebrates work that moves beyond mainstream housing discourse by surfacing voices, experiences, and ways of seeing that are often left out of the conversation. Their project encouraged a broader reflection on Canada’s housing challenges and the importance of paying attention to what dominant discussions can miss. UBC Science UBC Integrated Sciences
