Check out Vancouver International Film Festival Creator Talk: Joi McMillon, Editor, The Underground Railroad
From Oscar-winner Barry Jenkins, The Underground Railroad chronicles Cora Randall’s desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. Based on Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer-winning novel, the Amazon limited series was edited by Joi McMillon, the first Black woman to be nominated for an Oscar for editing (Moonlight, 2017). Joi joins us to offer an insider’s perspective on how a story takes its final shape in the editing room, the importance of the female lens, and her collaborations with Barry Jenkins.
