Hey UBC Signs Members,

I am looking for people interested in becoming an executive with UBC Signs in the following year. Running events this year has been difficult due to a very small executive team, and next year I hope to be able to run more classes and activities. I have several ideas I would like to see happen, yet just like everyone else I have a very difficult course load and need help from others for events to happen.

Next year I am looking for individuals to fill the following positions.

Treasurer - manage club finances, plan the annual budget with AMS, manage AMS bank account, pay instructors, collect annual membership fees, book rooms for class/event

Social Media/Event Planning - help manage club email, facebook, plan classes/activities

Class/Event Planning - help plan classes/activities

If you would like to get involved please send an email to [email protected] with a short paragraph introducing yourself, and explaining why you would like the position for which you are applying. Applications will be accepted until March 26th, this coming Monday. I will then post a google form in which election voting will be open from Monday to Friday, March 26-30.

I encourage those of you to get involved and look forward to working with some of you in the future.

We were unable to book a classroom for tomorrows Friday class Dec 15th, so it has been canceled. There will be no more classes for December, but they will start up again in January. We will send out information at the start of second semester on class scheduling.

Hey Everyone,

Unfortunately class today is canceled. We apologize for the any inconveniences this may have caused. The geography building is closed today due to it being a holiday and we were unable to have it opened.

Classes on Friday will be held as usual, and Monday classes will continue next week.

I hope that everyone had a great summer. We've been busily planning events and ASL lessons for the year and we are excited to announce that they will be starting soon!

UBC ISRL is looking for individuals with hearing loss to participate in a paid linguistics study ($10). Participants will be asked to watch short clips, answer simple questions, record phrases, and fill out a background questionnaire. For more information, please contact [email protected]

If you were unable to join UBC Signs this semester, or you just want to practice signing in a Deaf-friendly, voice-off environment, join our new bi-weekly American Sign Language Practice Group! Learners of all levels are welcome.

Meetings begin TOMORROW, and will take place at the UBC Global Lounge every other Tuesday from 5:30-7:00pm. Dates listed below:
