The Master of Engineering Leadership (MEL) degree is for practising professionals who want to gain a competitive advantage. With its unique combination of graduate-level UBC Faculty of Applied Science courses and UBC Sauder School of Business courses, this interdisciplinary professional master’s degree will give you the skills and confidence to take your career in new directions. Each 12-month sector-specific MEL program was developed with industry partners to meet the needs of today’s forward-thinking organizations and professionals. These cross-disciplinary engineering and business programs enable you to build your professional network, work on industry-led projects, collaborate with talented peers and learn from award-winning faculty and industry change-makers. An innovative interdisciplinary professional degree, the MEL combines graduate-level engineering education with executive leadership development. As a MEL graduate, you’ll hit the ground running with the technical and business skills needed to excel in your career and drive innovation in your industry. Meet Rishabh Kapoor, a graduate of UBC’s Master of Engineering Leadership in Clean Energy Engineering.

After more than a decade working in coal-based power generation, Rishabh chose MEL to help transition his career toward clean energy technologies, policy, and sustainability.

Through technical coursework, business and leadership training, hands-on projects, and a capstone with BC Hydro, he built the skills and experience to move into the clean energy sector. Today, he works at BC Hydro, supporting energy-efficiency projects across the province.

Rishabh’s journey shows how MEL can help professionals combine technical expertise with leadership development to take their careers in a new direction.

Meet MEL alumna Sonia Tsang, a graduate of UBC’s Master of Engineering Leadership in High Performance Buildings.

During her time in the program, Sonia worked on a capstone project designing a multipurpose building in the Arctic and contributed to a zero emissions municipal buildings policy through the UBC Sustainability Scholars Program.

Today, she works as an energy efficiency and sustainability specialist, developing energy models and helping clients reduce energy consumption and costs.

Sonia’s journey shows how MEL students combine technical knowledge, business skills, leadership development, and real-world project experience to grow their careers in Canada.

Meet MEL alumnus Sina Agunbiade.

A graduate of UBC’s Master of Engineering Leadership in High Performance Buildings, Sina brought his background in architecture and sustainable design to the program.

Through MEL, he expanded his knowledge of sustainable buildings, energy performance, regenerative development, business, and leadership. His experience included capstone projects focused on energy efficiency and embodied carbon, as well as a Sustainability Scholars project with the City of Burnaby.

Today, Sina works as a green building coordinator at Light House, supporting projects related to building performance, certification, climate risk, and regenerative practice.
