Langara College’s Co-op and Career Development Centre (CCDC) is now the Centre for Career and Work Integrated Learning (CCWIL).

This renaming makes the department's purpose easier to see: co-op is one piece and the new name reflects the broader pathway of work-integrated learning (WIL) that helps students build career readiness earlier.

Langara College students helped validate Tamarack, one of Canada’s first unique hop varietals, and their work is now supporting homegrown cultivation and craft brewing.

In partnership with Crescent Island Farms, Barnside Brewing, and the Island Hop Company, students collected wild hop samples, ran lab analysis, and helped confirm Tamarack as a viable hop for cultivation and brewing.

On August 1, we observe Emancipation Day, commemorating the day the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 came into force across the British Empire.

Emancipation Day is an opportunity to reflect on and recognize the strength, achievements, and perseverance of Indigenous and Black peoples in Canada, who endured and resisted centuries of enslavement. It is also a time for settlers to listen to Indigenous and Black communities whose lives continue to be shaped by the lasting impacts of enslavement.
