Congratulations to Dr. Mark Paul Rivarez on receiving funding through the New Frontiers in Research Fund Exploration stream for VECTOR. 🥳

This project studies plant virus communities, known as the virome, to better understand how viruses interact and influence plant disease severity.

By shifting from reactive diagnostics to proactive crop protection, VECTOR aims to support healthier crops, stronger agricultural productivity, and long-term food security.

Wine on the menu at research symposium 🍷🍇

Guests from around B.C. joined the UBC Wine Research Centre’s recent research symposium held at Tantalus Vineyards in Kelowna, B.C. The event connected UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan researchers with people working in BC’s wine and viticulture industries, and with colleagues from Agriculture and Agri-food Canada and the BC Ministry of Agriculture to share current projects and inspire new ones.

Students and industry presented on a wide range of topics including wildfire smoke taint in wine, yeast strains indigenous to the Okanagan Valley, consumer perceptions of wine quality, and opportunities for circular economy in the wine industry.

The Cedric B.H. and Aimée Thompson Fund will provide financial support for masters and/or PhD students studying soil science in any faculty.
