As concerns about polarization grow across democracies worldwide, UBC professor Max Cameron (SPPGA; Political Science) believes Canadians still have an opportunity to choose a different path.

SPPGA is pleased to announce the launch of a new Taiwan Studies Program housed within the Institute of Asian Research and supported in part by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver (TECO) Taiwan in Vancouver.

With a mandate to deepen understanding and strengthen connections between Canada and Taiwan, the opening event featured a keynote address, panel discussion with audience Q&A, and a signing ceremony with Director General of TECO Angel Liu and SPPGA Director Allison Macfarlane.

MPPGA students Rodrigo Rojas, Lindsey Eiwanger and Bahaar Abbas talk about why they chose the program, and how they translate classroom knowledge to shaping global policies.

The MPPGA offers a unique program that allows students to see themselves in policymaking spaces. If you are interested in becoming a global leader, applications for the Fall 2027 intake of the MPPGA Class of 2028 are now open.
