Honouring Orange Shirt Day 🧡

Tomorrow, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to honor the survivors or residential schools and the children who did not come home.

We recognize the importance of creating space to listen, learn, and reflect on the role each of us can play in reconciliation.

Music has always had the power to bring people together. Today, we come together with respect, remembrance, and a commitment to continued learning. 🧡

VAM will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We encourage our community to use this day as an opportunity for reflection, learning, and engagement with the histories and experiences of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

On Sunday evening, VAM was deeply honoured to be part of the Phantom Creek Estates Legacy Gala (Phantom Creek Estates), celebrating their 10-year anniversary and a shared belief in nurturing the next generation.

Much like a vine needs time, the right soil, and careful tending to flourish, a young musician needs the opportunity, encouragement, and community to grow into their potential. We are incredibly grateful that proceeds from the evening’s auction will support VAM and help create those opportunities for young musicians through music education.

The evening came to life through performances by our Stradivari Players, alongside members of our wonderful faculty. Seeing our musicians share their artistry in a room brought together in support of their future made the occasion especially meaningful.

To Phantom Creek Estates (Phantom Creek Estates), thank you for believing in what can grow when we invest in young people, and for helping the next generation of musicians find their voice. ❤️

Here’s to planting the seeds for what comes next.
