Friday, October 23, 2026 is the annual BC Professional Development (Pro-D) Day.

On this day, schools across British Columbia are closed and UBC BEd classes are cancelled, so teachers and teacher candidates can participate in professional learning, build skills and connect with colleagues online or in person.

A variety of opportunities are scheduled each year. Events include subject-specific conferences, workshops and webinars hosted by school districts and professional associations. Some events are free for teacher candidates, while others require registration or membership fees.

All BEd students can vote for student representatives from both Elementary & Middle Years and Secondary.

Members of the UBC community are invited to Learn, Reflect and Create with the Teacher Education Office in commemoration of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

On Tuesday, September 29, the TEO will have a booth set up in the Scarfe foyer from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Students, staff and faculty are invited to come make their own Every Child Matters button, contribute to our reconciliation hearts display and explore teacher resources on the residential school system and reconciliation.
