Here is an inside look into the Closing Ceremony of Afrocentrism Conference 2019.

We were honoured to have Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o be an integral part of this conference as both an inspiring keynote speaker and a gracious supporter.
Below is a full video of Ngũgĩ’s keynote speech from the second evening of the conference at SFU Harbour Centre in Vancouver, BC.

Special thank you to David Markwei Productions for capturing this moment.
Also thank you to everyone who joined us this evening and over the 2 days of the conference.

Enjoy!

‘We’re here, and we want to be heard, and we’re part of the community.’

A group of UBC and SFU students spent the better part of this and last year organizing the 2019 Afrocentrism Conference: Decolonizing Academia. The conference was a two-day event that “seeks to subvert Western ways of knowing and learning and celebrate Black scholarship.”
