The Dietetics Major is a professional program designed to meet national accreditation standards for the dietetics profession. Graduates are eligible to practice as registered dietitians upon application to a provincial regulatory body and successful completion of a national registration examination. The program involves five total years of study; two (2) prerequisite years and three (3) program ye

ars (the final year involves BC-based internship courses). The curriculum includes general courses in both biological and social sciences, and specialized dietetics courses such as basic and applied human nutrition, food and food systems management, and professional dietetic practice. Did you know that more than half of children report being involved in body-based bullying? National Eating Disorder Information Centre (NEDIC) has developed Beyond Images, a free curriculum for students on body image and self-esteem. The curriculum includes lesson objectives, lesson plans, worksheets, and evaluation rubrics as well as other resources for grades 4 to 8. The materials are available in English and French. The story of our 5th-year dietetic student Lucy Hoang has been recently published in the latest issue of ReachOut by the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. Way to go, Lucy!

Lucy Hoang, a current dietetics student, transferred from science to LFS to pursue her interest in nutrition. She wishes to promote the importance of building a positive relationship with food and dismantling diet culture by running programs and counselling.

June is National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month! To commemorate both of these events, UBC Equity & Inclusion Office is hosting a screening of Two Soft Things, Two Hard Things - a documentary that focuses on the impact of colonization on traditional Inuit beliefs on sexuality and processes of "unshaming" undertaken by younger generations. The screening will happen this Friday, June 25th, 3-5 pm, and will be followed by a discussion of key takeaways.
