🤍 With heavy hearts, we hold the Late Dr. Skip's wife Linda, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family, alongside the Lək̓ʷəŋən community and the Songhees and Xʷsepsəm (Esquimalt) Nations in our thoughts.

Skip was a beloved Elder, Knowledge Keeper, and tireless advocate for Indigenous students. He always put students first, by welcoming them, supporting them and reminding them that they belonged. Through his work with Elders’ Voices and his presence across campus, he helped create a true home away from home where students could stay grounded in culture while pursuing their education.

Skip taught us to live, speak, and work with a good mind and a good heart. We will continue to carry his teachings forward by showing up for students in the same way he always did. 🤍🙏

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of LEXIXELEK, Dr. Baptiste Harry “Skip” Dick of the Songhees Nation—a beloved and deeply respected Elder whose presence has been woven into the fabric of the University of Victoria for decades.

Dr. Skip was more than a respected Elder, he was a guiding light, a teacher, a Knowledge Keeper and an advocate for Indigenous education, culture and community. His life’s work has left an everlasting mark on this university, Camosun College, the Victoria Native Friendship Centre and across communities throughout these territories and beyond.
