We were honoured to attend the ceremony & recital marking the 5th anniversary of the Music for Veterans Project at Government House on April 28, where double Music UVic Alumni Emily Armour honoured the latest group of piano students who have composed original pieces in recognition of Canadian military veterans past & present — a story which was also covered in the Times Colonist. It was delightful that Emily was able to have a moment to reconnect with mentor & retired Music professor Bruce Vogt as well!

✨ A Sky So Boundless ✨
📅 Friday, March 27 | 8 PM
🎶 UVic Wind Symphony🎶

Join us for the final Wind Symphony concert of the season—an evening of bold, lyrical, and boundary-pushing music, featuring works by Robert Buckley, Julie Giroux, Kevin Day, Katahj Copley, Joel Love, and Gustav Holst’s iconic First Suite in E-flat.

🌟 Special Highlight: Concerto Competition Winner Ethan Page (marimba) performing Emmanuel Séjourné’s Concerto for Marimba and Wind Orchestra, a rare gem in the repertoire that blends neo-romantic lyricism with virtuosity.

“There aren’t many pieces like this for marimba,” says Ethan. “I love how dynamic and colourful it is—from the melancholic first movement to the energetic, lively second.”

From intricate eleven-tuplet runs to soaring melodic lines, this is a performance you won’t want to miss.
