Congratulations to Joy Hall and Michelle James, the recipients of our 2025 Certificate in Indigenous Language Revitalization (CILR) Award! 👏

The CILR Award is made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor and is designed to support learners on their educational journey and the language revitalization needs of their communities.

Joy (Silixwiya) is from Skowkale and Sts'ailes First Nation in Sto:lo Nation, BC, and is committed to bringing Halq'eméylem back into everyday use within their community. Michelle (łayiik) is from the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation, whose dedication to language revitalization is inspired by the hope of passing these teachings on to future generations—including their granddaughter, River.

We are honoured to support their journeys. Learn more about the CILR Award and our 2025 recipients

What if one course could open the door to new opportunities? For Caitlin Pierce, it did.

After years of working as a phlebotomist, Caitlin enrolled in “Chronicling the Stories of Your Life,” a memoir-writing course through Continuing Studies at UVic. The experience reignited her love for storytelling and inspired her return to university. This spring, Caitlin will graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Writing, a perfect 9.0 GPA, and the Victoria Medal—an honour awarded each year to UVic’s top Fine Arts student.

We love seeing where lifelong learning can take you. Congratulations, Caitlin! 🎓
