🎂 This year, we celebrate 50 years of the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria. Last week, we held a commemorative event to mark the occasion.

Founded in 1976 during a time of significant change, the School of Nursing opened access to degree education for nurses on Vancouver Island. Since then, the UVic School of Nursing has contributed to health care in British Columbia, Canada, and beyond, preparing generations of nurses, nurse leaders, researchers, and educators.

We celebrate this milestone with gratitude and look ahead with excitement for what’s next! 👏

📖 With the support of a donor-funded scholarship, Jessica Newcombe turned her goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner into meaningful community impact.

For Jessica Newcombe, being a nurse is about helping people in their most vulnerable moments. As an undergraduate, she shifted from a life sciences degree to nursing, drawn to the hands-on nature of the profession. Since then, she has worked as an emergency department nurse at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria and as a clinical instructor for the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Emergency Nursing Specialty Program.
