Tuesday, Oct. 20- Matthew Hayday, professor of Canadian history at the University of Guelph, will present the lecture, "Vive le Québec libre: Separatism, Sovereignty, and Nationalisms in 1960s Quebec and Canada." He will untangle the different forms of nationalism, sovereigntism, and separatism that were coursing through Quebec’s politics, social movements, and society in the 1960s. What were their ramifications for Quebec and for the rest of Canada—then and now? Come join us for lecture 2 in our Fall 2026 series, “Eras of Turmoil: 1960s and Now.” Find more about the series and how to buy tickets here: tal-kw.ca.

Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1:30 p.m. Historian, educator, and author Andrew Hunt will present a lecture, “From Deference to Defiance: How the 60s Unraveled the Cold War Consensus.” This presentation will examine how the upheavals of the 1960s transformed public attitudes toward the Cold War, moving them from broad acceptance to skepticism, dissent, and, in some cases, outright defiance. This first lecture in our series “Eras of Turmoil: 1960s and Now” will be held at RIM Park in Waterloo. We hope you will join us on Tuesday—and for this entire series—which offers an insightful and stimulating look at a decade that had a lasting impact on democracy, identity, equality, conflict and social change. There’s still time for you to buy season tickets to these eight lectures. More here: tal-kw.ca
