🖤CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH🖤
In recognition of Black History Month, Lambda Epsilon would like to provide a spotlight to our VPPE Alivea Homer and VPCR Omoye Edokpolor and their experience of being Black women in an NPC sorority!
“As a black student passionate about social justice, I have witnessed first-hand the barriers and discrimination Black people face. At the University of Waterloo, I went to sorority recruitment and found my home in AOII, a diverse group of sisters who have become my closest friends! However, despite my sorority's inclusive and positive nature, I'm aware that there are still few black girls in Greek life, and there is a history of racism and misogyny in sororities and fraternities. Despite this, I am hopeful for the future and acknowledge the progress made by AOII. I hope that Greek life continues to improve for women and people of colour and that we use our voices to create change and advocate for women and our sisters.”

“Coming from such a diverse Chapter, I have had an incredible experience being in a sorority! During Fall recruitment I met so many women from different backgrounds and ethnicities which was a surprise coming from a predominantly white high school. This made me feel more at home knowing I wouldn’t be singled out! The purpose of Alpha Omicron Pi is to carry into the world a spirit of love, it makes me proud to be part of an organization that is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion! Lambda Epsilon provides monthly Programming and Enrichment workshops that are meant to increase our Chapter’s understanding of racial equity, diversity, and inclusion; and key ways to advance them! Although this is my personal experience, it is important to acknowledge that there are other Black women who do not share the same. It can be scary and intimidating entering a room and finding that you are the only person that looks like you. But with our world rapidly progressing, I hope that Greek life is able to move forward as well and provide more inclusive spaces for not only Black individuals but for all People of Colour!”
