University of Waterloo History Society You are already a member by being a History student! Feel free to come out to as many as you can, and bring friends!

The Undergraduate History Society is dedicated to those passionate about history, run for, and by undergraduate history students at the University of Waterloo. We organize a variety of events throughout the year and publish the Waterloo Historical Review, an undergraduate academic journal. We will be hosting a number of events throughout the fall and winter terms! Also feel free to come out to our offices hours, find out more information about the Society and how to get involved. Our office is HH122 (Hagey Hall 122).

The Waterloo Historical Review is officially accepting submissions for the 13th edition of the premier UWaterloo student journal!

The Waterloo Historical Review, an annual journal, is a unique initiative conceived, written, edited, and published by students at the University of Waterloo. It serves as a platform to highlight and disseminate the scholarly work of undergraduate and graduate History students, offering them an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to historical research. The journal is also open to any student outside the History discipline and welcomes cross-discipline engagement and research.

It is a great opportunity to get experience in academic publishing and the peer review process. If you have any questions reach out to the WHR. Submissions are due by Friday, November 6th!

History Society invites you to an event this month with speaker Daniel Manulak!

In Canada, Apartheid, and the Defence of the Liberal Order, Daniel Manulak argues that for Canadians, the struggle against apartheid was not just about South Africa or racial injustice. He traces Canadian attitudes and policy toward South African apartheid over nearly four decades, revealing why Canada was prompted to take a leading role in the global fight against South Africa’s system of racial oppression. This book examines how Canada “punched above its weight” on an issue seemingly peripheral to its national interests from 1987 to 1990. He draws on newly declassified files, interviews, and other key materials to produce the definitive investigation of Canada’s response to apartheid.
