The Iota Mu chapter of Sigma Chi is proud to welcome eight new gentlemen into our brotherhood. After five weeks of pledgeship, Justin Hum, Jory Finkelstein, Luca Fathollahzadeh, Kush Shah, Kyle Cashin, Riley Vanderlip, Connor Logan, and Matteo DeAngelis were finally initiated! Many thanks go out to Nehul Garg (Pledge Educator), and his assistants Nicholas Hudescu and Jordan Tedesco.

We are excited to launch our second "NO-SHAVE NOVEMBER" campaign! Throughout this month, there will be a series of exciting events happening on campus to help our efforts in raising money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation with a goal of $5000!

Some of our brothers will be participating in No-Shave November by growing out their facial hair for the entire month to help raise cancer awareness. Simply click one of the participating brother's names whom you wish to donate to by using the link below.

Hey everyone! Today’s the day! The time is now (actually 11:30), the place is the sig house. Come check out the fall carnival that our lovely sweetheart Marissa Pomponio has organized!!! For just a couple bucks not only could you play some fun games, and win some cool prizes, but you could also be helping make a difference in a number of peoples lives who are living with many different forms of cancer! With the school year coming to an end, we are honoured to introduce Sigma Chi Iota Mu’s incoming Sweetheart, Marissa Pomponio!

Marissa is a 4th year Kinesiology student and member of the Alpha Phi sorority at Laurier. Outside of studying, she is the president and founder of club25 which is targeted towards the promotion of youth blood donation. She also went to Nicaragua with SOS Laurier as their Outreach Executive. As a future doctor, she currently works as a personal care attendant while also volunteering at the Grand River Hospital.

When asked what being the Chapter Sweetheart means to her she responded with: “to me this means embodying the spirit of Sigma Chi to its fullest potential, while being someone the brothers can count on. I feel so lucky to be affiliated with such an incredible chapter of leaders and men. I absolutely cannot wait to get started!”

Marissa has big ideas and dreams for what's to come this year, however she is most excited about helping our chapter reach the Huntsman 20K club through some amazing new event ideas, as well as expanding our Derby Days, Cancer Walk, as well as No-Shave November which she implemented last year!

SIgma Chi Laurier’s Chapter Sweetheart would like to wish everyone a very Happy Valentines Day! As the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi, Hannah actively supports our chapter in many of our philanthropic events, and in many of our regular everyday activities.

Hannah is a 3rd year BBA student, specializing in accounting. Apart from loving every moment of being the Chapter Sweetheart this year, Hannah is the Organizing Director of the Lazaridis International Case Conference, which is bringing in 12 schools from countries including Australia, China, the UK and more!

Hannah says that her favourite part of being Chapter Sweetheart is getting to run philanthropy events and support the waterloo community while getting to build friendships with so many of the brothers in the chapter and surprising us with little gifts . She also loves how sweet the brothers are, saying that she hasn't gone a single day without receiving a hug from a brother that she's around campus. She is looking forward to her last few months in the role, especially with our upcoming 30th anniversary activities!

When asked if she had any advice for people considering Greek Life, Hannah said “Even if it seems intimidating to put yourself out there, you have an opportunity to make unreal bonds with people who end up becoming your lifelong friends! The people I grew up calling uncles and aunts were my dad’s brothers (and their spouses) But I imagine one day my kids will think the brothers of Sigma Chi are their real uncles and family!”

Every summer, a handful of brothers from our chapter get to go to Bowling Green Ohio to participate in the Krach Transformational Leaders Workshop, during which they get to learn valuable leadership skills, while engaging with brothers from chapters all over North America!

Hey everyone! We’re proud to bring you the first weekly bro-file, where we will introduce you to one amazing brother of our fraternity each week. This week we are excited for you to meet brother André Bourgeois, our President. You may have seen him around campus as an Icebreaker this fall, helping welcome the first years to their new school!

As the president of our chapter at Laurier, André currently is not involved with any other leadership positions on campus. In the case that he was, he’s not sure he’d be able to give either position the attention it deserves given how time consuming this presidency is.

He joined Sigma Chi in the first semester of his first year at Laurier. He was interested in the various kinds of opportunities it provided and, given that he was raised in a very small town, he was drawn to the strong friendships and tight sense of community an organization like this provided.

When asked what his absolute favourite part about Sigma Chi was, he stated “how permeating it is into my life, sometimes in ways you’d never think of; It’s not uncommon to be walking through an airport, or another city with a set of letters on and have a brother that you’d never met strike up a conversation with you as if he was reconnecting with an old friend.”

His advice to first year students that are interested in joining Sigma Chi would be to make sure it’s the right fit. André explained “Your next four years are important, and the rest of your life afterwards will be as important as you make it. You always need to make sure you’re pursuing things that you’re passionate about, and if that so happens to be becoming a well-rounded leader that’s able to excel in today’s quickly changing world, Sigma Chi might just be for you.”
