🎶 It’s Choose Laurier Day! 🎶

We’re excited to welcome future Golden Hawks to campus today as they explore what life at Laurier could look like.

Mieke will be at the information fair throughout the day and will also be leading a Faculty of Music building tour at 1 p.m. from the Savvas Chamberlain Music Building. We’re looking forward to meeting prospective students, chatting about programs, and showing off our amazing music community.

Not planning to study music? You can still stop by and chat about how non-music students can participate in ensembles for credit at Laurier. 💜

Still making your decision? Remember, you have until June 1 to accept your offer of admission.

If you’re visiting campus today, be sure to stop by and say hello!

Laurier Faculty of Music assistant professor Dr. Matthew Emery is currently in China sharing his expertise in Canadian choral music with audiences abroad.

As part of his visit to Henan University, Dr. Emery delivered a lecture titled Appreciation of Canadian Choral Music Art through the Henan University Zhishan Forum. His work continues to build international connections through music, education, and cultural exchange.

Even more exciting — an upcoming lecture featuring Dr. Emery alongside the mayor of the city has already sold more than 800 tickets.

We love seeing Laurier faculty making an impact around the world while representing Canadian music on an international stage. 🎶🌍

Tonight, we celebrate the retirement and extraordinary legacy of Dr. Lee Willingham, inaugural director of the Laurier Centre for Music in the Community. 💜

For decades, Lee has helped shape Community Music at Laurier and beyond, building spaces where people could connect, create, learn, and belong through music.

Join us this evening for the world premiere of The Circle of Music documentary, highlighting an intergenerational choir connecting people living with dementia, care partners, and student volunteers through music.

We’d also love for members of our community to share memories and well wishes for Lee as we celebrate his impact and retirement.

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of welcoming retired Music Therapy administrative staff member Debra Martz Melanson back to Laurier’s Faculty of Music for a visit. 💜

During her time here, Debra helped faculty coordinate the foundation for the Music Therapy program and community we know today. While visiting, she had the chance to reconnect with some familiar faces, including Emily Carruthers, our current Music Therapy Placements and Graduate Coordinator, who now carries forward much of the important work Debra helped build over the years.

Huge congratulations to our own Adrean Farrugia 👏 Our Contemporary Commercial Piano Instructor and Jazz Ensemble Director has had two of his original compositions featured in the major motion picture documentary I Am Joe Frazier — a powerful film celebrating the life and legacy of heavyweight champion Joe Frazier.

Adrean’s music helps tell the story of a legendary athlete who rose from humble beginnings to redefine greatness in his own image.

We’re so proud to have such an inspiring and accomplished artist leading our students in both contemporary commercial music and jazz 💜

There’s something especially magical about music at night in the Savvas Chamberlain Music Building. 🌙🎻

We’re excited to share this stunning performance of Edward Elgar’s Sonata for Violin and Piano in E minor, Op. 82, performed by Laurier faculty member Jeremy Bell (violin) alongside pianist Shoshana Telner.

Watch here - https://vimeo.com/1163820288

Recorded in the Mezzanine of the Savvas Chamberlain Music Building, this performance captures both the intensity and lyricism of Elgar’s late masterpiece in an intimate nighttime setting.

Take a listen and experience the atmosphere for yourself. ✨
