The history department was established in the Faculty of Arts in 1964, seven years after the founding of the University. We have forged partnerships with Waterloo's affiliated colleges of St. Jerome's, Conrad Grebel, and Renison, and worked together with the University of Guelph and Wilfrid Laurier University to found the Tri-University Graduate History Program. Over the years, our faculty have be

en awarded for both research and teaching, including two University Research Chairs, a Canada Research Chair, six student-nominated Distinguished Teacher Awards, and numerous other prizes. History matters! As students, alumni and friends of the History Department, you understand how critical knowing the past is to comprehending the present. Please tell us how you share your passion for history in your life, and stay in touch so that you can join us in building a network of committed historians.
