About a month ago, areas in the Niagara Region were hit with significant rainstorms that overwhelmed roads, sewers, and drainage systems. Thousands of basements flooded. As Mennonite Disaster Service began to mobilize in the area, Grebelites saw a way to help close to home. Several groups of students drove to Niagara and volunteered where they could, working to remove damaged walls, floors, furniture, and possessions in the clean-up process. The experience built on Grebel’s existing relationship with MDS: each year, students organize a week-long service trip to a disaster-affected area, and MDS offers scholarships to students who serve longer terms.

“Without relationships, design is basically a science. It’s my job to bring some humanity into it.” - Glenn Fretz

Logos surround us. How often do we think about the values they convey?

The newest Library and Archives exhibit tells and shows the story of Glenn Fretz’s fifty-year career as a graphic designer and consultant, focusing on his work with Mennonite and non-profit organizations. It also gives a nod to his most ubiquitous work – his redesign of the Trillium symbol for the government of Ontario.

An exhibit launch will be held on Thursday, September 17, 7:00 PM. All are welcome.

Recent Grebel alum Josiah Plett (BCSC '26) was one of two University of Waterloo students to receive recognition from The Logic's list of Canada's leading innovators from the class of 2026.

Programming since childhood, Josiah took that passion to university. The Logic recognized his mentorship of students via innovation talks, resume reviews, and career discussions, as well as developing and selling his web game "Split Second" by his second year.

Josiah currently works at Maxima, an accounting start up, with plans to become his own business owner in the future. Congratulations Josiah!

On behalf of Grebel, Devon Grainger (Building Operator) received the Top Honker Award today from UWaterloo. Among more than 17,500 total plays, Devon won "The Goose Game" during May's Giving Day, and he designated his winnings to Grebel. His efforts, combined with many others in the Grebel community, kept the College at the top of the leaderboard.

On Giving Day, with matching funds from an anonymous donor, plus winnings from the Goose Game, donors gifted Grebel $19,863.06 that will help students fully participate in Grebel life and keep the College community vibrant and full of possibility. Thank you to everyone who helped make this campaign a success, whether through donations, Goose Game points, or by encouraging others to participate.

Last week we marrrrrrrked the end of term with a Chapel service and pirate-themed banquet. There was good food and lots of laughs with the Grebel crew. Now it’s time to batten down the hatches and tackle those exams.
Good luck students! You’ve got this!
