Five Books about Book History!

From Dr. Leslie Howsam: The “book” in “book history” is an umbrella term for everything from marks on stone, to handwriting on parchment, to printed books and magazines, to new digital media. Book history looks at how written communication has been composed, mediated, and received, how it has survived, and how it changes over time. Novelists, historians, librarians and literary critics have written about it, and I’ve chosen five of their books to show you how interesting it can be.

To all 2nd year and 3rd year History majors:

Opportunity to become a History Mentor

The Mentorship and Learning Program is taking applications from current 2nd and 3rd year students for Fall 2012. Selected students will enrol in the Fall 2012 FASS course: Mentorship and Learning, and will be placed in our first-year history class, Past to Present: Understanding History. This is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills and become involved in the work of the History Department (and it is impressive on a resume). For more information (and for details on the application process) see www.uwindsor.ca/fass/mentorship-and-learning.

Deadline to apply is March 23, 2012.

Will History Faculty and Sessionals please remind students of this great opportunity!

Mentorship and Learning (01-01-400/02-02-400) is a course which runs each year in the Fall semester. To be successful in this course, students must begin to think like mentors and question how the role of the mentor in the context of this course will translate into practice. An open attitude and wil...
