Meet Maria Zangari, an MA student in Clinical Psychology at UWindsor and a 2026 Ontario Women’s Health Scholar.

Her research explores how health-care providers can better support women who have experienced gender-based violence, particularly in walk-in clinics, urgent care centres and pharmacies.

With a $25,000 award supporting her work, Maria is looking at how trauma- and violence-informed care can help create safer, more responsive health-care experiences.

For Alumni Week, we’re celebrating alumni who are using their skills, experiences and voices to make a difference.

Meet Kate Reynolds (BMus ’06), founder of Storytime Solidarity and known to thousands as the Lavender Librarian.

From children’s literacy and disability advocacy to music and inclusive storytimes, Kate is challenging assumptions about who belongs in children’s spaces - and creating more welcoming ones for everyone.

Her work is a powerful reminder that our alumni are making an impact far beyond the classroom.

What does meaningful Indigenous allyship look like in practice?

As part of the launch of the Turtle Island - Indigenous Student Services Centre’s Indigenous Allyship Guide, we’re inviting members of the UWindsor community to reflect on their allyship journeys.

Dr. Wayne Ambrose-Miller, Director of the School of Social Work, shares his perspective on learning from Indigenous Ways of Knowing, challenging our own biases, and taking meaningful action within our roles.

From bringing Indigenous guest speakers into the classroom to supporting Indigenous-led community events and creating opportunities for Indigenous students to connect, Dr. Ambrose-Miller reflects on what reconciliation can look like within a university setting.

Dr. Lee Rodney explores what the new crossing could mean for the relationship between Windsor and Detroit - from reducing truck traffic and improving neighbourhoods to recognizing the Indigenous and Black histories woven into the region.

🎬 From UWindsor road trips to a new TV series!

Meet UWindsor alumnus Corey Palmer (BA Hons. ’12, BEd ’14), a Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (FAHSS) graduate whose love of food, travel and storytelling started with road trips alongside his closest friends.

Years later, those friendships have turned into Recommendations, a new six-episode food and travel series streaming now on Bell Fibe TV1. The series follows Corey and his friends as they explore Kingston’s restaurants, local businesses and community stories. 🍴🎥

Corey credits his time at UWindsor with helping shape the creativity, adaptability and storytelling skills that continue to guide his career.

And the UWindsor connections don’t stop there - fellow alumni Dan Yaworsky and Monique Renaud (BFA ’11) also contributed to the production.

Learning, serving, and growing - together. 🌍💙

This past spring, UWindsor students from Social Work, Education, and Nursing travelled to Tanzania as part of the Teach Tanzania service-learning experience. Working alongside local educators, health-care professionals, and community members, they built meaningful partnerships, shared knowledge, and gained invaluable lessons in collaboration, cultural humility, and global citizenship.

From classrooms to community health initiatives, the experience is one our students will carry with them throughout their careers.

Congratulations to Alice Zacharias, a Gold Lead Medallion recipient and 2025 Ron W. Ianni Memorial Scholarship in Music Performance recipient from FAHSS / SoCA.

"SoCA made me realize the value in community, especially in the creative arts. Enriching others is to enrich our own lives."

Alice's UWindsor journey has been shaped by performance, leadership, teaching, and community. She was winner of the Ianni Scholarship competition two years in a row, recipient of the H. Whorlow Bull Scholarship in Choral Conducting and the Arlene Janzen Memorial Scholarship, concertmaster for the Windsor Symphony Community Orchestra from 2024 to 2026, a Choral Scholar for the Windsor Essex Youth Choir, a Lab Assistant for the University of Windsor String Lab, a board member for 4th Wall Music, and Co-President of the Creative Arts Student Society.
