Sometimes, figuring out where you want to go starts with exploring where you don’t.

For UWindsor alumnus Eric Parker (BASc Hons. ’18), four co-op work terms gave him the opportunity to explore different industries, roles and workplace environments - ultimately helping him define what his ideal career looked like.

After each placement, Parker reflected on what he enjoyed, what he didn’t and what he wanted in his future career. That exploration led him to technical sales, where he could combine his engineering expertise with his passion for working with people.

Today, Parker is Director of Sales at Vista Solutions, overseeing global sales operations.

His advice to students? Stay curious, keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to try something that might not be the right fit. You never know where the experience might lead.

Meet Abigail McLeod, one of our Rising Stars! ⭐

For Abigail, a co-op placement at PromoShop was more than gaining work experience - it was an opportunity to make a measurable impact and discover where she wants to take her career.

As a third-year Odette student, Abigail worked across marketing and business development, helping create campaigns, support client outreach and develop new business opportunities.
One of her standout achievements? Helping develop a new email marketing strategy that increased open rates by 20% in just four months. 📈

Meet Nishant Gowthaman, one of our Rising Stars! ⭐

When Nishant joined CenterLine (Windsor) Limited for his co-op placement, he took on a challenge that went far beyond writing code.

He transformed nearly a decade of estimating data stored across thousands of spreadsheets into a searchable system, helping employees find and reuse valuable information more efficiently.

But his biggest takeaway? Great technology isn’t just about what you build - it’s about who you build it for.

Now, he’s continuing his journey with CenterLine as a software developer. 🚀

Meet Luke Laforest, one of our Rising Stars! ⭐

During his co-op at Ford Motor Company’s Windsor Engine Plant, third-year Electrical Engineering student Luke Laforest worked on projects focused on improving efficiency, reducing costs and supporting frontline workers.

One of his standout projects was developing a forecasting tool to help predict material requirements and reduce the risk of production disruptions. He also contributed to assembly-line optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.

His experience showed him the impact engineering can have - not only on business outcomes, but on the people behind the work.

It even changed his career plans, inspiring him to continue with Ford in a part-time engineering role while completing his degree.
