UMSB is a team of undergraduate Civil Engineering students that compete in the annual ASCE/AISC International Student Steel Bridge Competition (SSBC). The SSBC started in 1992 and is a unique event that encourages future engineers to design and construct a model steel bridge while considering the effective application of engineering principles and theory. Participating teams are not only challenge

d to achieve innovation through design under strict competition constraints, but while also taking into consideration real-world engineering issues such as spatial limitations, material availability, constructability, project management, and of course, cost.
