Congratulations class of 2026 🎓

A special message from the Faculty of Science Associate Dean (Student Experience), Horace Luong! 👏

This time of year is all about celebrating you and everything you’ve worked on so hard to achieve. When you walk across the stage in June, take a moment to really let this accomplishment sink in. On behalf of the Faculty of Science, we’re so excited to celebrate alongside you.

We hope you leave this chapter of your lives feeling confident in what you’ve learned and who you’ve become and ready to take on new opportunities, ask big questions, and make your mark in the world in your own way.

We’re incredibly proud of you, and this isn’t the end of your connection with us. You’ll always be part of this community, and we can’t wait to see where your path takes you next 🎉

What is the role of generative AI in higher education and research? The new episode of The Science Lens is out! 🎙

In this episode, we are discussing how generative AI affects meaningful teaching and learning, how researchers are looking into the relationship between humans and AI, and whether you should let generative AI write your resume and prepare your coffee. Em-dashes and Oxford commas are also up for debate!

This episode is hosted by Kimia Shadkami, digital content and communications lead and Michelle Perner-Lemire, research grants facilitator. Our guests are Brenda M. Stoesz, a Research Lead - Science of Teaching and Learning at the Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL), and Rafiat Bamimore Akodu, an MSc student in Computer Science from the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) Lab.

Science Rendezvous 2026 was nothing short of extraordinary. Saturday, May 9, 2026, Manitobans showing up for the love of science! 🔬

The day started with scattered clouds, mighty winds, and more than 5,000 brilliant young minds on the Fort Garry campus – maybe for the first time – to follow a spark within. They were all there for the love of science.

If you attended Science Rendezvous 2026, you might find yourself in the UMToday article, https://umtoday.ca/stories/manitobans-showing-love-science

Balancing the demands of studying, working, and caregiving isn’t easy. For many new parents in science related fields (whether students, faculty, or staff), having a welcoming, private space to express milk or feed their baby can make all the difference.

Together, we can make the Faculty of Science a place where everyone can thrive…in the lab, in the classroom, and in life.

Every gift makes a difference. Whether you give in honour of a mother, mentor, or caregiver, your contribution helps create a lasting symbol of inclusion in the Faculty of Science.

Should we not reach our goal, funds raised will be directed to support Women in STEM at UM.
