A Brown Bag Lecture with Johise Namwira - Strategic Communications Leader, TEDx Speaker, Bilingual PR Expert

Stories shape what we remember, who we believe, and what we change. This lecture examines how storytelling functions as a tool of power, shaping collective memory, identity, and access to justice.

Drawing on her experience at the intersection of communications, policy, and human rights, Johise Namwira’s talk will explore how dominant narratives can reinforce exclusion, while alternative storytelling can disrupt systems and open pathways toward more equitable futures.

The Winnipeg International Storytelling Festival presented by the Arthur V. Mauro Institute for Peace & Justice is pleased to present the Canadian premiere of:

Adam Booth’s
The Heron’s Journey

The Heron’s Journey combines spoken storytelling, quilting, paper sculpture, and intentional movement. Meet the title character Lake in various forms of self-discovery on his journey from boy to heron.

This performance art piece shares an allegory filled with magic, challenges to opposition, and transformation.

Audience members have found themselves deep within the story, echoing themes such as immigration, orientation, ability, spiritual freedom, and self-awareness.

After the performance, the audience will be invited to stay for a talkback discussion session about the story.

Also Featuring: Somia Sadiq and Rylee Nepinak

Fr. Daniel Mwamba Mutale, SJ, is the Executive Director of the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR), a faith-based think-tank in Lusaka, Zambia. A Jesuit priest from Zambia, he holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Fordham University, New York. He participates in the Global Ignatian Advocacy Network to amplify voices from the margins and promote sustainable, faith-driven responses to the ecological crisis.

Produced in collaboration with Canadian Jesuits International and St. Mark’s College (UBC), Campion College (URegina), Regis College (UToronto), and St. Jerome’s University (UWaterloo).
