Graduating with her Certificate in Management and Administration, Inderdeep Kaur is one of nearly 350 Extended Education grads celebrating their achievement on June 10 and she's already looking forward to coming back to UM.

“My bachelor’s degree gave me the concepts but I did not know how to apply them to the real world. This program gave me not only the theory but I also learned how to deal with practical situations. I think I lacked the skills and real-world insights,” she says.

Congratulations on your accomplishment, Inderdeep! Read her story at the link in bio.

Yuliia Petruchek’s resilience and dedication is truly inspiring. Leaving terrible conditions in Ukraine and not speaking English when she arrived here did not stop her. Now a graduate of the Certificate in Applied Counselling, she plans to re-establish her medical career in Canada.

“I feel a great sense of pride. I appreciate all the knowledge I gained from this program. The theoretical and practical skills will help me in every moment and support my career one hundred percent,” she says.

Grant Baccus wanted to stay relevant and upskill in AI. After learning about our Micro-certificate in Artificial Intelligence: Machine Learning Solutions in an article in the Winnipeg Free Press, he chose the program as an investment in his future.

“The AI program provided me with theoretical knowledge of Machine Learning. I knew of it but this conveyed all that and reminded me of my computer science education 20 years ago. It turned my curiosity in AI into a genuine interest. It sparked a deeper engagement with the field,” Grant says.

Strong workforce development happens through partnership. Just ask Yvonne Kinley, UM Extended Education’s Director of Business Development and Innovation (BDI).

In her role, Yvonne partners with chambers, sector councils and organizations like yours across Manitoba to align UM Extended Education programs with workforce needs. The mission is simple: To help businesses grow by helping their people to grow.

Says Yvonne, “For me, there’s nothing like seeing our learners reach their professional development goals. When we attend the graduations and celebrations recognizing all their hard work, and we see the joy and pride on their faces, I am reminded of how much our professional development training makes a difference.”

When you partner with UM Extended Education:
• Your goals drive the programming. We tailor training to your timelines and needs.
• Your in-house training has value. We will consider recognizing your training as credit towards a program, reducing time and cost for learners.
• We will work together, in collaboration. This is also how we work together with UM experts and industry partners to develop and design relevant, flexible, high-quality programming for learners.

What your workforce will gain:
• Confidence
• Skills aligned with industry expectations
• Professional development pathways
• Instruction from working professionals
• Personalized learner supports
• Access to UM resources, services and future alumni benefits

How do you stay relevant, restart, or reinvent your career?

Three of our graduates did exactly that and they’re sharing how they made it happen.

Nearly 400 Extended Education learners completed their programs in February and June 2026. On June 10, we celebrate their achievements at Spring 2026 Graduation. Their stories are powerful reminders that it’s never too late to grow, pivot or begin again.

“Access helped me in so many ways. Just knowing they were there was a comfort. Being part of the Access community helped me feel seen, supported, and reminded me that I belonged in medicine — not just for myself, but for the communities I hope to serve,” says Glennis Bird, Access Program grad who earned her MD from the University of Manitoba.

Last week, the Access Program celebrated 13 grads from across UM and the journeys that brought them here. These future teachers, healthcare providers, storytellers and more have overcome challenges and shown what's possible with the Access Program's holistic support.

We are so proud of them. Meet some grads: https://umtoday.ca/stories/ready-heal-and-educate-others
