the Graduate Associaion for Students in Psychology (GASP) is hosting a Winter Clothing Drive and Fundraiser from Monday, January 30th until Monday February 6th, 2023! We will be accepting donations of lightly used and new winter clothing (boots, mits, hats, scarves, sweaters, long pants, etc.) and monetary donations as well.

Who are we raising money for? All clothing and money donations will be collected and sent to the Main Street Project to provide winter necessities to the community. The Main Street Project "Serves the needs of Winnipeg’s most vulnerable residents since 1972. Main Street Project offers programming and services to help our community members build stability. Working under a housing first philosophy, we work with each individual to support positive changes and transition them towards stable, permanent housing." For more information, please visit: https://www.mainstreetproject.ca/

How can you donate? Clothing will be collected in a designated bin in the Psychology Student Lounge on the fourth floor of Duff Roblin for one week! Look for the bin titled, "GASP Winter Clothing Drive Donations". Money donations can be sent via e-transfer to [email protected] during this week too!

If you'd like to donate cash, please contact Li-elle Rapaport ([email protected]), Chace Laffin ([email protected]), or Sophie Hanson ([email protected]) via email to arrange dropoff.

We hope to continue the giving season with you all to provide resources to those who need it for the upcoming cold winter months!

A safe place of respite, shelter and support with dignity and without judgement. We help hold communities by supporting people living with addictions, homelessness, chronic and acute illness and mental and physical health issues.

Hello Psychology Students, Faculty and Staff,

In this season of giving, GASP (Graduate Association of Students of Psychology) is coordinating a holiday hamper in support of the Christmas Cheer Board. We are seeking contributions to help fill a hamper that will feed a family of 4. Generous donors like you will make it possible for the Christmas Cheer Board to provide essential items to a family in need.

Due to COVID-19, it is not possible to drop off items on campus as we normally would. We are instead collecting donations of any size (as little as $1 will make a difference!), and then doing a large "click and collect" order and delivering the items to the family. Our community events coordinators, Alyssa Romaniuk and Li-elle Rapaport will be collecting donations via e-transfer. Donations can be sent to this email: [email protected]

The family that we have matched with includes:

5-year-old boy – requests an owl toy or dinosaur toys
1 year old girl – requests any toy

Please find attached a list of the items GASP will be purchasing with the donations. If you have any of these items you would like to drop off instead of monetary donation, please send an email to [email protected] to coordinate a drop-off donation. Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! Any member of GASP will be happy to help.

Please use this link to sign-up to donate specific items:

Donations will be accepted until 6:00 pm on December 13th.

We look forward to another year of giving back to our community. Thank you for your generous support!

Happy Holidays,

Alyssa Romaniuk and Li-elle Rapaport

GASP Statement of Solidarity with UMFA

The University of Manitoba Graduate Association of Students of Psychology (GASP) supports the University of Manitoba Faculty Association (UMFA) in their call for fair and competitive compensation. We acknowledge that this call is for the betterment of the academic community at the University of Manitoba, as it will strengthen the recruitment and retention of professors, researchers, and librarians. Just as the University of Manitoba Faculty members support graduate students in the pursuit of their academic, research, and career goals, we wish to support UMFA in advocating for fair compensation that will allow them to continue doing this important work.

The University of Manitoba is known for its diverse range of academic programs and innovative research opportunities. We attract quality researchers, professors, and students from all around the world. Compensating those who are responsible for such diversity and innovation is integral if we want to recruit and retain the trailblazers who lead us to excellence.

We will continue to support our graduate students during this time. GASP stands in solidarity with UMFA, and we call on the University of Manitoba Administration to reach an acceptable collective agreement.

In solidarity,

Graduate Association of Students of Psychology (GASP) [email protected]
