Peer-Mentorship Program

SAS Peer mentors offer one-on-one advice about accessibility on campus, SAS services and many other topics! The mentors are located in the UMSU Accessibility Centre at 113 Helen Glass. Please drop by to say hello and ask your questions.

o Monday 9:30-12:30 and 1:30-4:30

Scholarship Opportunity:

The Mattinson Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities is offering up to four scholarships, valued at $2,000 CAD for a bachelor degree program, tenable for one year. Applications are by nomination only, and only one nominee from each of Universities Canada’s member institutions will be accepted. The candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, and have a minimum academic average of 80%. Candidates must be diagnosed with a permanent disability which is documented and is the primary disability for which they are applying.

Provide your input on equity, diversity and inclusion at the University of Manitoba:

In October of last year, the President’s Task Force on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) was established to provide recommendations on the process and actions required to identify and address obstacles and inequities facing faculty, staff and students at the University of Manitoba. The Task Force is consulting with members of our community to respond to the question, “What is needed to ensure that EDI principles are embraced and supported within the UM community?”

All students, faculty and staff are urged to take part in these consultations and to lend their voices to this important work. We want to ensure that all members of our UM community feel included and safe, and able to be authentic and to contribute in meaningful ways to our learning and work environment.

A focus group for students with disabilities has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 25th from 1:30-3:00 in Room 521A/B University Centre. No registration is required. We hope to see you there. If you require accommodation to support your participation, please email [email protected].

APPLY TODAY to become part of our 2019-2020 AC Coordinating Team! Applications are currently being accepted for President (1 position), Treasurer/Secretary (1 position), Social Media Coordinators (2 positions), Events Coordinators (2 positions), and Lounge & Resource Coordinators (2 positions).
The AC’s priority is to have people within the community fill these roles. That is, preference will be given to those who identify with a person living with a disability or having accessibility needs (3:1 ratio). The Coordinating Team will be a new element to the AC’s operations next year and will give students on the team the flexibility to be creative and explore various ways to direct the group in offering more equitable opportunities on campus. JOIN the AC in creating an exciting and vibrant community of like-minded folks.
