Check out Humans of Acadia to get to know those who chose to study at Acadia and call Wolfville home.
“I think coming to Acadia was the biggest life changing moment because I didn’t know anyone coming here except my sister, I didn’t have any friends or anything and I was coming from Ontario so I kind of had to be independent. Also being in isolation coming to school I got to work on myself a lot and think about what things I wanted to add into my daily routine and just improve myself. I also think it made me way more independent because I don’t have my mom or dad or anyone to rely on here. Like if I wanted to go get a coffee or something I didn’t really have any friends to ask so I got to do a lot of things by myself which was really enjoyable too. I got to work on myself a lot more and got to grow and develop. Also I had a twin brother that I did everything with so this was a big step away and made me even more independent. Because of Covid I was going to take the school year off and work but then I got laid off and I decided 3 days before the last deadline to accept my offer and come to Acadia. I had just gotten laid off over the phone and I was at this Tim Horton’s after dropping off my sister to move in when I decided yeah this is a good idea. I wouldn’t have come here if it wasn’t for Covid. And if I decided I wanted to go to school I probably would have stayed in Ontario and I think I would have really stayed in my comfort zone, whatever university I went to I would have had a lot of friends there. So I feel that here I could be my own person and make friends that are more like me and not just the ones that were around me in high school. And then also I’m not dependant on my brother or my family relationships anymore like I can go out and do stuff myself, and I’ve always wanted to travel, I feel like I would have been bored if I stayed at home.”
