Community Homecoming Message
As we head into Homecoming weekend, we remind our students, alumni and friends of Acadia that it is our collective responsibility to take care of one another, and our broader community.

Each one of us is part of a larger whole here at Acadia: our own social circles, the wider university community, and the Town of Wolfville. Individual actions can affect all other members of our community.

Homecoming is an opportunity to celebrate what makes our community so special. We ask that while students, alumni and friends celebrate, they bear in mind the responsibility to remain respectful of the people, spaces, residences, and businesses that make up our home. The University, Alumni Association and Town of Wolfville stand against racism, discrimination, violence of any kind and any other behaviour that is disruptive to our community.

We recognize that Acadia and Wolfville are not immune to sexualized violence and gender-based violence. We must work together to ensure that no further harm comes to members of our community. This work goes well beyond our behaviour during Homecoming. It means having hard conversations with your friends, refusing to be a silent bystander, and listening to survivors.

We have a zero-tolerance policy for sexualized violence and any perpetrators will be prosecuted to the full extent of Acadia’s sexualized violence policy and the law. Treat other community members with respect and speak up if you see behaviour that is harmful, unsafe or disrespectful.

Be a good neighbour, take care of each other, and have a great Homecoming.

Dear Acadia Community,

At the St. Francis Xavier University Homecoming weekend in Antigonish, individuals hung a sign outside a window encouraging sexual violence against Acadia students. Acadia unequivocally stands against what happened and all other actions that normalize violence against women.
We join our colleagues at St. Francis Xavier University in condemning the events of this weekend and thank them for the strong stance they have taken against it.
What happened in Antigonish is a symptom of a society-wide problem. It is our collective responsibility as higher education institutions to speak out against violence against women, and r**e culture specifically.
While we have taken steps forward in addressing the incalculable harm done to women and gender diverse people on university campuses around the world, there is still much ground to cover.
We will continue to enforce our sexualized violence response protocols, and we encourage any Acadia students affected by this kind of violence to contact our sexualized violence response office for support.
The only way for us to create truly safe environments for all students to learn and thrive is to take action. That means calling out instances of r**e culture and sexualized violence on campuses and prosecuting them with zero tolerance. We will continue to do so.
