McFarland Laboratory The McFarland Laboratory operates out of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA)

Beginning September 2019, the McFarland Laboratory moved from UNCG to the SW and currently operates out of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Our research is geared toward producing novel photoactive chemical complexes that have applications in photodynamic therapy (PDT) of cancer and/or photodynamic Inactivation (PDI) of microbes.

More exciting November news! We are excited that our TLD-1433 has been granted FDA fast track status!

"The accelerated communication with the FDA potentially allows, TLD-1433, in combination with the TLC-3200 medical laser system (“TLC-3200”), to be the first intravesical patient-specific Ruthenium-based PDC for the treatment of patients with BCG-Unresponsive NMIBC CIS, with or without papillary Ta or T1 tumours."

Some November updates:

Theralase Technologies (Toronto, Canada), is currently underway with their lead compound, TLD-1433 (invented in McFarland Labs), into Phase II Non Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (“NMIBC”) clinical study for Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (“BCG”)-unresponsive patients at 4 Canadian clinical study sites.

But here is even more exciting news!!! TLD-1433 has now shown remarkable high-kill rate in a preclinical analysis of Coronavirus BSL-2!! (note: this is not Covid-19 strain which is caused by BSL-3 virus).

The Company has signed an agreement with a Trial Management Organization to provide 4 to 6 US based urology study sites that will be able to commence enrolling and treating patients

Breaking the barrier: an osmium photosensitizer with unprecedented hypoxic phototoxicity for real world photodynamic therapy!!

Hypoxia presents a two-fold challenge in the treatment of cancer, as low oxygen conditions induce biological changes that make malignant tissues simultaneously more aggressive and less susceptible to standard chemotherapy. This paper reports the first metal-based photosensitizer that approaches the....

Dear Cancer Sucks Halloween Howl Group,
We thank you, in advance, of your generous support of this most worthy annual event. We want to share some of our research news with you, it’s been an exciting busy year!
Our most exciting news is that our lead compound TLD1433 has successfully completed a Phase I human clinical trial this year! You may remember that, in 2017, this compound entered a trial to investigate the treatment on patients with Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (“NMIBC”). Funding has now been secured to proceed to a much larger Phase II clinical trial, which will involve approximately 100 NMIBC patients. To find out more about this amazing ongoing research:

Theralase® a biotech company in Canada is pleased to announce Health Canada has approved the Company’s Clinical Trial Application (“CTA”), allowing clinical study evaluation of Theralase’s lead anti-cancer drug, TLD-1433. Press release on Sept 10, 2018
