Informations générales

The Anti-Counterfeit Network (ACN) is a Private Legal entity, which aims to bridge the intervention gaps between the multiple stakeholders that affect and are affected by counterfeits and illicit supplies. It is a member based Organisation open to all stake holders which provides a Regional platform through which Anti-counterfeit actions can be aggregated and shared. ACN is a response to the unabated rise of counterfeits in the face of limitations and immense challenges that Government Enforcement and regulatory bodies continue to encounter in the fight against counterfeits and the lack of coordination of efforts between Donors/International/Regional Agencies, Manufacturers, Distributors, Consumers and Stakeholders. ACN does not seek to replace or interfere with the Legal mandates of existing Government enforcement and Regulatory bodies charged with fighting counterfeits but rather it seeks to supplement and boost there efforts for the collective good. It shall therefore seek strategic relationships with stakeholders to promote and sustain its cause. At the helm of it’s corporate governance structure, will be a team of Advisory Board members from the various sectors. The first advisory Board for Uganda which shall be expanded now includes the following: Dr. Maggie Kigozi (former Executive Director Uganda Investment Authority) Prof. Waisswa Balunywa (PHD) (Principal Makerere University Business School) Dr. Patrick Ogwang (President Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda) Though it is founded by behavioural change communication, marketing and legal experts, it is open to other Professionals and non Professionals because every one is qualified to fight counterfeits. At the moment, ACN is working with other experts in 5 African countries to tackle illicit supplies in the Petroleum supply chain and trademark / copyright infringements in creative industries involving computer software and hardware. ACN is currently registered in Uganda and Kenya and registration is ongoing in Nigeria, Rwanda, Zambia and Ghana with a plan of registering and operating in more than 10 countries by the end of 2017. Counterfeit business thrives as a cross border activity in Africa that is why ACN intends to have a footprint across Africa. As an intervention platform, ACN innovates and implements strategies to combat counterfeiting through some of these means; Carrying out research, market surveys and investigations Providing legal redress. Providing mindset trainings, structured dialogues and behavioural change centred communication to key sector stakeholders and the general public. Creating awareness, championing advocacy and lobbying platforms. Developing and supplying innovative solutions and technologies that deter consumption of counterfeit products and limit parallel importation.
