Before the start of the term, Veronika Sossau, Nathalie Hertig, and Tobias Burkhardt travelled to Miletus, Turkey. For two weeks, the trio processed findings from a Roman house in the neighbourhood of the Athena Temple, excavated in 2002. The Athena temple area underwent significant changes from the Hellenistic to the Late Antique period. During the Hellenistic period, one of Miletus's major sanctuaries appears to have lost its importance and was gradually transformed into a residential area, which remained in use until Late Antiquity.
The research stay was enhanced by a variety of activities, including visits to recent excavation projects as part of , a lecture by Nicolò Masturzo on his recent work at the Harbour Stoa, weekend explorations to the Carian sites of Pedasa, Alinda and Labraunda, and a breathtaking sunset at Heraclea ad Latmum.
