We are pleased to announce the international conference “Musical Infrastructures in Times of Globalization. Pasts, Presents, and Futures,”
taking place at our Institute of Musicology from November 5 to November 7, 2026. The conference is co-convened by Jasmin Goll, Ph.D. Candidate at our Department, and Destiny Meadows (Davidson College, USA).
Taking up the “infrastructural turn” in music and sound studies, this conference aims to continue and broaden discussions between “audible infrastructure studies” and “musical infrastructure studies.” Bringing together scholars from historical musicology, ethnomusicology, sound studies, (global) history, cultural studies, and media studies, we explore the intersections of music and sound, infrastructures, and globalization in different geographies and temporalities.
In addition to the keynote lecture by Martin Rempe (University of Konstanz) and the presentations, the conference includes crosstalk and a reading session with Kyle Devine and Alexandrine Boudreault-Fournier, the editors of “Audible Infrastructures” (2021).
