Work.Master MFA in Visual Arts of HEAD, Geneva University of Art and Design Work.Master is a 2-year MFA programme devoted to contemporary artistic practices.

It is organized around projects, developed by students together with artists, curators, writers, art critics, researchers… Rather than offering a formatted curriculum, Work.Master proposes a heterogeneous programme. Work.Master aims to adapt to the sensibility of each personality it gathers, to the inventiveness of each methodology it helps to build, and to the non-orthodox, emancipated propositions of its students. It is the ambition of the Work.Master to support the development of highly personal languages and questions around what it means to produce art today. The course offers various Labzones, experimental and collective situations that are created to help craft steady relationships between the students, visiting teachers and faculty members. These are not just temporary encounters but exchanges that will last during the course of the two-year programme and often beyond that. The idea is to be able to wander and ponder, to take walks and trips, to extend conversations beyond their reasonable length, to produce books, exhibitions, and many other formats apt to challenge the conditions of reception and production of art, to get involved with Geneva's art scene and to present one's work and various projects both locally and internationally. In the same spirit, Seminars are led by different teachers who are theorists, curators or artists, all coming from various backgrounds. They enrich and complete an educational philosophy that aims to place the development of students' practices at the centre of the curriculum and to shape artistic positions that are supported in the form of text, critique, and writing in general as well. Besides promoting discursive formats and modes of communication, Work.Master also conceives its pedagogical role as one of producer, in collaboration with local and international institutions, independent spaces and selected individuals. Past and recent projects include, among several others: Making TV-shows with the artist Vaginal Davis; working on an information and archive centre at the Centre Griseldis Réal with Olga Rozenblum; A performance by students for the closing days of Mai-Thu Perret’s exhibition The Blazing World at Spike Island in Bristol; Making and performing a Dance piece with the choreographer Mårten Spångberg, a documentary on la HEAD with the artist Morag Keil, or a study trip and performance with the artist Anthea Hamilton to Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo; making a movie together with the artist Lili Reynaud Dewar in Rome or in Marfa, Texas; creating and launching the magazine Pavillionesque #2 with the artist Paulina Olowska; A study trip with writer and editor Catherine Chevalier from May Magazine, building of a functional canteen with the artist Marie Angeletti to serve daily lunch to the whole department at a reasonable price, fully run by students, or making of the movie Radical Chic together with the artist Verena Dengler in between Vienna and Geneva, as a few examples. Le programme Work. Work. L'ambition du Work.

-Genève, bât A, route des Franchises 2, 4e étage (espace Work.Master)

---

The bachelor [inter]action is pleased to extend Olivier Marboeuf's invitation by the Work.Master, in the framework of the seminar “Anti-/Post-/Dé-/colonial : une conversation en cours”, to propose a public reading of the poem-manifesto "Bleu Pays", published in "Les matières de la nuit", poetic shadow of his essay "Suites décoloniales". The reading by the students will be followed by a conversation with Olivier Marboeuf, where it might be about mouths and noise, de-speaking voices, rage and infrabasses, and about a poetic writing that seeks a path in the decays to build its scene of enunciation: how and where to start talking?

Olivier Marboeuf is a storyteller, curator and film producer from Guadeloupe. He currently shares his work between speculative writings, drawing and film production within Spectre Productions. He recently published the essay “Suites Décoloniales: s’enfuir de la plantation” and the poetry book “Les Matières de la Nuit”, both published by éditions de Commun.
