How did Martinican feminists challenge colonial rule and imagine new forms of citizenship?
We are delighted to welcome Annette Joseph-Gabriel, Associate Professor at Duke University and award-winning author of Reimagining Liberation: How Black Women Transformed Citizenship in the French Empire.
Drawing on overlooked archives, this lecture explores the vibrant feminist movements that emerged in Martinique during the 1930s and 1940s. The discussion will shed light on how women developed distinctive forms of activism, resistance, and political thought in the face of colonial domination and social inequality.
