At the beginning of the month, as part of our Tourism Stories Hub taught by Claudio Visentin, we explored the world of historic cars thanks to the contributions of several guest speakers.

✨️ From discovering the historic Campione d’Italia circuit and the project for its revival, to understanding how historic cars represent a testament to our past and a heritage that deserves to be preserved; from meeting drivers and admiring the Fiat 508 Barchetta owned by a collector and racing enthusiast, to learning more about the Tazio Nuvolari Museum dedicated to the legendary driver; and from visiting Campione d’Italia and its iconic casino, this was an insightful week in which our students gained a deeper understanding of the historic motoring world and its connection with tourism.

Meet our International Tourism students and learn about their individual travels as future tourism professionals. This series is an opportunity for students to share their experience and reflect on their own travel choices and behaviours while connecting classroom concepts to real-life situations, including topics such as eTourism and sustainability.

✨️ Auréliane, a first-year student, visited the Puglia region in Italy during the Easter break. See how studying tourism shaped her trip, especially her reflections on cultural heritage, localness and slow tourism.

On Tuesday 5 May, Giuseppe Redaelli will deliver a lecture titled "On the Roads of Time – Historic Cars, Between Collecting, Memory and Tourism” as part of the Master in International Tourism, and in collaboration with and . Giuseppe Redaelli is the president of FIA International Historic Commission and of the Autodromo di Monza. His lecture will take place in Room 355 (Main Building), West Campus and will begin at 18:00. Everyone interested is welcome to join!

πŸš— Historic cars are not merely a passion for collectors, they are also a precious testament to our past and our material culture, a heritage to be preserved and kept alive and visible on our roads in the form of a moving museum. Classic motoring generates significant, yet often underestimated economic benefits, as demonstrated by numerous events and re-enactment organised around the world, including the successful attempt to revive the historical Campione d’Italia circuit, the shortest circuit in the world. The future of this sector is therefore promising, but it also comes with various challenges.

✨️ We look forward to seeing you there!

The course β€œSustainable Tourism Experience Design”, taught by , aims to teach students how to design a sustainable tourism experience not only from a theoretical perspective, but also through hands-on learning and project design with a real company. This year, our first-year students designed a project for , known for its Swiss luxury chocolate. The original factory is located in the Valle di Blenio in Ticino, and will soon open as a chocolate resort and spa.

🍫 Earlier this month, students had the opportunity to learn more about the story and mission of CimaNorma by visiting the facilities in Blenio. They also had the chance to taste a variety of its chocolate. Based on their visit and the insights given, the students worked in groups to propose different sustainable tourism experiences that CimaNorma could offer. They got to present their idea directly to the owner of CimaNorma Abouzar Rahmani!

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming American travel writer as a guest speaker in our Tourism Stories Hub taught by .visentin. During his visit, he led a dedicated module titled β€œThe Art of Travel”.

🌍 Rolf Potts spent the week with our first-year students, sharing stories of his adventures, from his early dreams of travel to his first long-term journeys. He introduced students to a different understanding of travel: not merely as a product to consume, but as an experience, a different way of being in the world. This perspective was also explored during the public lecture β€œVagabonding? A new art of travel?” introduced by .

The topic of travel writing was another key focus. Students reflected on their own travel experience and considered how to transform them into meaningful narratives. They also explored the theme of independent travel in its various forms, from one generation to the next.

✨️ A big thank you to Rolf Potts for his presence and for sharing his insights on both the art of travel and the art of storytelling.

πŸ’¬ On Tuesday 10 March, American travel writer Rolf Potts will deliver a lecture titled β€œVagabonding? A New Art of Travel?” as part of the Master in International Tourism programme. His lecture will take place in Room 355 (Main Building), West Campus and will begin at 18:00. Everyone interested is welcomed to join.

🌍 Travel is not simply a product, but an experience – a different way of being in the world. Thus, the ability to travel depends on a flexible and open-minded attitude towards what makes journeys possible. Rolf Potts, an experienced traveller and dedicated backpacker, has journeyed on foot and by bicycle through Eastern Europe, Israel, Myanmar and many other parts of the world. He is also the author of several books on the art of travel, including β€œVagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel”, which has sold over 300’000 copies.
