Professional Development Course this Fall:

Health-building and the Expressive Arts: Trauma Informed Practice in Communities and Society
Fall 2026 (October 22 – 31); Valletta, Malta

Registration Deadline: September 30th, 2026

The skills and knowledge featured in the 10-day Expressive Arts and Global Health program can be widely applied, including building resilience in communities in crisis after a natural disaster, addressing PTSD symptoms after surviving a traumatic event such as war, and promoting arts projects that empower communities to become actively engaged in their societies to make political change or build peace for the future. While this program features conflict transformation and peacebuilding, trauma-informed care is crucial knowledge that can be more broadly applied by those working in therapeutic fields.

This course invites students, educators and researchers to embrace phenomenological thinking and methods as means of accessing deeper truths about human experience and enacting meaningful change in the world. Through a focus on embodiment, we can begin to reimagine education, research, and social justice in ways that are more inclusive, human-centered, and responsive to the lived realities of individuals.
