Franklin Switzerland

Franklin Switzerland Franklin Switzerland is a US- and Swiss-accredited nonprofit university based in Lugano, CH.

Franklin Switzerland is located on a hillside above Lugano, the principal city of Switzerland’s southernmost Italian-speaking canton of Ticino. An American liberal arts institution in an international environment, Franklin is fully accredited in the United States by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and in Switzerland by the Swiss Universit

y Conference. Franklin places extraordinary emphasis on cross-cultural perspectives, an emphasis designed to affect the direction and meaning of a student’s college experience, life and career. A commitment to courses of study that are international in perspective and cross-cultural in content has been the cornerstone of our educational mission since our founding in 1969. In fact, we classify this need as the international imperative in education. Franklin Switzerland awards the Bachelor of Arts degree in a number of academic areas, each enhanced by the opportunities afforded by our European location, as well as the exemplary qualifications of our faculty.

What if Summer Session meant more than earning credits? At Franklin, it can mean living in Morocco, learning Arabic, exploring local traditions, and experiencing another culture from the inside. 🌍🇲🇦

Right now, a group of students is spending a month in Rabat, Morocco through an immersive summer program led by Professor Patrick Saveau.

They are living with local families, learning Moroccan Arabic, exploring medinas, discussing literature in the places it references, taking part in workshops, listening to Sufi music performances, and experiencing Moroccan culture through everyday life and human connection.

This program is built around experiential learning: understanding culture not from the outside, but by living inside it.

Some lessons stay in your notes. Others stay with you for life.

What does the future of finance look like? 📈

At a recent guest lecture led by Professor David Suleiman, students heard directly from Paolo Bortolin, Director of Business Development at BIL Suisse and former Deputy CFO of the City of Lugano.

From traditional bonds to digital bonds issued on blockchain, the session explored how financial systems are evolving — and how cities like Lugano are becoming hubs for innovation.

A chance to understand how theory connects to what’s happening in the industry right now.

A message from our Franklin graduates 🖤

Throughout Graduation Day, many students reflected on the encouragement, sacrifices, trust, and unwavering support their families gave them during their time at Franklin Switzerland.

Graduation Day is not only a celebration for our students, but also a meaningful milestone for the families who supported them every step of the way.

Because of that support, they were able to travel, learn, experience new cultures, build friendships, and grow through experiences they will remember for the rest of their lives 🎓

Thank you to all Franklin families for trusting us to be a home away from home ✨

Back to Graduation Day, and to one of the moments that touched the hearts of students, faculty, alumni, and families alike 💐

🎓 During Franklin Switzerland’s 56th Graduation and Commencement Ceremony, Clarice Zdanski was awarded the title of Professor Emerita in recognition of her lasting contribution to the University and its students.

A longtime instructor of Studio Art and Art History, Professor Zdanski has inspired generations of Franklin students through her teaching, mentorship, artistic vision, and commitment to experiential learning over the years.

As she stepped onto the stage at the LAC to receive this recognition from President David M. Mills, the emotion throughout the room reflected the immense appreciation felt across the Franklin community for her impact and dedication.

How much can change in one year? 🎓✨

Last year, one friend celebrated Graduation at Franklin Switzerland’s 55th Commencement Ceremony. This year, it was the other’s turn at the 56th Ceremony.

The branding changed.
The logo changed.
The year changed.

But the friendships, the traditions, and the sense of community stayed exactly the same 🖤

This is one of the most beautiful parts of Graduation at Franklin: celebrating not only individual achievements, but also the people who shared the journey together.
