ELSA Switzerland With 60,000members in 43 countries, ELSA is the world's largest independent law students' association

Five law students from Austria, Hungary, Poland and West Germany founded ELSA in 1981. Today ELSA is the world's largest independent law students' association, represented at over 300 law faculties in 43 countries across Europe with a membership of more than 50,000 students and young lawyers. ELSA (The European Law Students' Association) is an international, independent, non-political, non-profit-making organisation run by and for students. It is comprised of students and recent graduates who are interested in academic and personal excellence in addition to their studies at their universities. ELSA offers law students a perfect platform to develop their existing skills, acquire new skills and meet fellow students and legal professionals throughout the Europe. ELSA activities comprise a large variety of academic and professional events that are organised to fulfil the vision of ELSA and in order to provide our members opportunities to enhance their skills and to interact with each other. Furthermore, ELSA provides its members opportunities to develop their skills through our traineeship programme as well as through our publications. Finally working in the ELSA-network prepares active members of ELSA for their professional life through international experience gained through the association. Today, the ELSA network in Switzerland consists of 9 local groups with over 1,500 members nationwide.

This week we’re kicking off our first Annual Human Rights Campaign topic, by looking at Democratic Participation & Electoral Integrity.

From candidate profiles on social media to e-voting trials and online petitions, digital tools now play a role at every stage of the electoral process. This brings new possibilities, for example for citizens living abroad and for persons with disabilities. It also raises legal questions around access, cybersecurity and ballot secrecy.

The right to vote is set out in international law, including the ICCPR, the ECHR and the UN CRPD.

The tools changed. The rights didn’t.

As our term as the National Board of ELSA Switzerland 2025/2026 comes to an end, we look back on this incredible year with immense gratitude !

A heartfelt thank you to all the Officers who joined our national events and both International Council Meetings (ICMs).
Your enthusiasm, dedication, and support made this term truly unforgettable.

Few weeks ago, ELSA Switzerland gathered in the beautiful city of Lucerne for the Spring National Council Meeting.

Throughout the weekend, members came together for activities and a series of workshops on Saturday, followed by a productive Plenary on Sunday, during which proposals were discussed and voted, and the National Board for the next term was elected.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended. Sharing these amazing moments with all of you was truly unforgettable.

A few weeks ago, ELSA Switzerland had the privilege of attending the L###IX International Council Meeting (ICM) in Brno.

The week was filled with insightful discussions, inspiring exchanges, valuable inputs, and the opportunity to reconnect with ELSA friends from across Europe.
It was truly a rewarding experience that further strengthened our international network and shared vision.

We would also like to extend our sincere congratulations to the newly elected International Board for the term 2026/2027, and we wish them every success for the year ahead.

In addition, a heartfelt thank you goes to all our delegates who represented ELSA Switzerland throughout this memorable week with dedication and enthusiasm.

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to and the International Board for the excellent organisation of this wonderful ICM.

We are already looking forward to seeing everyone again at the next International Council Meeting !
