Here’s what happened: She had been communicating with a man living in Dubai. They fell in love, and according to the man, he was planning to come and marry her.

She asked him for money to rent a place and get a car to pick him up from the airport, and the man sent her 48,000 FCFA. Apparently, the amount wasn’t enough for her, so she blocked him. He has tried several times to reach her, but without success.

The public reaction has been unbelievable. Many people are actually supporting the lady. They argue that no man who genuinely intends to marry a woman would send only 48,000 FCFA for such expenses. They believe he was not serious and was only trying to come and sleep with her. As a result, they are happy she did what she did.

Just last week, we were discussing a case in which a young lady followed money and ended up being r@ped in Bamenda.

From the way many people are reacting, it seems the lady might have agreed if the amount had been 100,000 FCFA. If she had gone and something bad happened to her, what would people be saying then? Society is really becoming confused.

Again, 48,000 FCFA is not a small amount of money, and Dubai is NOT America. Many of our brothers and sisters living in Dubai struggle financially, and that is no secret. Seeing people talk down on the amount is actually surprising. That is a young hustler who worked hard for that money. How many of you reading this have ever given someone 48,000 FCFA at once?

To the man: Bro, do not send money to people you meet online, especially if none of your family members or close friends have met the person. It might just be a picture. It could even be a fake account. Doing so only shows poor judgment. This is 2026; things like this should not still be happening.

Lastly, it is disappointing to see so many people publicly supporting such behavior. We are gradually sending the message that if the amount is high enough, then it is acceptable. Yet when people follow the money and end up in dangerous situations, we still turn around and ask why they were chasing money in the first place.

The internet is a crazy place. Getting your values and ideas from this space can be very toxic.
