Point 1: Give Priority to the Inaugural (First) Month.
The first month of a semester is where first class students quietly pull ahead. Most people are still in “holiday mode” or waiting for things to get serious. That’s the exact window you use.
Here’s what “giving priority to the first month” actually looks like in practice:
📌 Show up 100%, Attend every class in the first 4 weeks, even 8am lectures. Sit where you can see/hear clearly.
📌 Build your learning system fast
From day 1, Get a notebook/folder for each course. After each class, spend 20 mins rewriting or summarizing the notes that same day. Your brain stores it better when it’s fresh.
Proverbs 27:1 warned about procrastination.
📌 Map the lecturer
Note 3 things per lecturer:
1) Do they repeat certain phrases?
2) Do they set questions from their notes or textbook?
3) What’s their marking style? Ask past students too.
Proverbs 9:9 says — the wise get wiser by observing.
📌 Get the materials early
Week 1: Ask for course outline, handouts, and recommended textbooks.
Start reading Chapter 1 before it’s taught. When the lecturer teaches it, it becomes revision for you. That’s how you stay ahead without last-minute stress
📌 have a mindset shift
The first month isn’t “warm-up” — it _is_ the race.
📝📝 *Quick self-check for Week 1-4:*
- Do I know each lecturer’s name and office hours?
- Can I explain the last lecture to a friend without my notes?
- Do I have a folder + outline for every course?
If yes, you’re already operating like a first class student
It's not too late👌👌👌👌👌

Universities ministry seminar (January 2026)

Theme: *cultivating the impact mindset and expertise in your field of studies*
speaker: Mr Ekanje Terrence(Certified Chartered accountant)

*Objective of the seminar*
-> Leaving with a mindset to be a cultivator
-> Gaining practical steps for impact
-> Learning the ways of experts

*Outlines:*
- We must come to terms with the fact that There is no time which is too late to learn. Your decision to learn is the hallmark of a life of impact.
- impact mindset requires a readiness to go the extra mile to cultivate a winning mindset.

*What does it mean to cultivate???*
To foster growth through intentional care, labor and attention.
-> We must understand that impact is not a one day achievement but a life given intentional to cultivation.

One thing you must know about Excellence!!!!!!!!!
- you are what you repeatedly do. excellence is not an award but a Habit(lifestyle)

*let's consider the following key scriptures.*
- Proverb 16:9(we make our plans but God is able to direct us)
- Daniel 1:17 (We can possess the spirit of excellence through submitting ourselves to God)
- Matthew 6:33(seeing God's kingdom is very essential for impact)
- 2Peter 1:3-8, Daniel 11:32 (The knowledge of God keeps you strong and stable amidst visible challenges)

*What is impact??*
Simple put, impact is Creating a visible change that is positive.
-> All impact makers have one thing in common. They have a clear goal or vision of what they want to do.

*How do we cultivate an impact mindset???*
we must apply the 3 Ds and 2 Rs
Determination = Strong effort + refusal to give up
Dedication = commitment + hard work
Discipline = self control + good behavior
Relevance = connection + usefulness
Reliability = trustworthiness + consistency

We must be very intentional, as far as being experts and creating impact is concerned.
We must stop using the statement like; "I want to try" and start engaging fully in what we must do.

*We must note the following:*
-> How you master what you are doing and how courageous you are to do it, It's what makes an expert an expert.
-> Professional growth and transformation is the basis for impact
-> Don't expect anyone to clap for you because you are creating impact and advancing.

*Group conversation* (ask and answer the following questions as a group)
-In what I am doing, how can I create an impact???

*2 things we continuously engage in ( speech by Sir GeorgeDavid)*
i) engage for life-long learning
ii) engage in mentorship

‎1) Studying Only When Exams Are Close: They wait till exam week to open their books*.
‎ That’s not seriousness, that’s panic learning.

‎ What should you do???

‎🔑 *You must engage the Principle of Active Learning.*

‎ Effective studying happens when you actively engage with what you are learning, rather than just reading or listening passively.

‎*What does this mean in practice:*
‎📌Ask questions while studying: Why? How? What does this connect to?
‎📌Explain the topic in your own words (teach it to someone or to yourself).
‎📌Practice regularly with exercises, problems, or past questions.
‎📌Summarize and make notes, not by copying, but by understanding.
‎📌Review repeatedly (spaced repetition) instead of cramming

‎ Note: Learning becomes effective when we prioritize consistency over intensity (study a little everyday)

‎To be continued
