🎓 Planning to study in Spain in 2027? Read this before you pay any tuition fees.
Spain is an attractive destination for international students:
✅ Affordable tuition at public universities
✅ Lower cost of living
✅ The opportunity to work part-time while studying
✅ A welcoming and multicultural environment
✅ Programmes available in English
✅ Travel across the Schengen Area, within Schengen rules
But choosing the wrong institution, programme or academic pathway can cost you far more than money.
What has changed?
Royal Decree 1155/2024, Spain’s Immigration Regulation, was approved on 19 November 2024 and came into force on 20 May 2025.
It brought real benefits, but also new documentation requirements and stricter checks. Since then, universities and students have reported delays and refusals linked to how the rules are applied.
What students often discover too late?
⚠️ A programme may not be visa-eligible even when the institution is authorised and officially recognised in Spain.
⚠️ The consulate reviews your whole file, and the criteria applied in practice are not always obvious from the application checklist.
⚠️ Your school, however prestigious, cannot guarantee your visa.
A wrong decision at the start can mean lost tuition fees, wasted time and a disrupted academic future.
