Tsinghua University PBC School of Finance was founded in 1981 as the Graduate School of the People’s Bank of China, and merged into Tsinghua University in 2012. The PBC School of Finance (PBCSF), Tsinghua University’s 17th school, was founded on March 29, 2012 as a joint venture between the University and the People's Bank of China (PBC). It was built on the successes of the Graduate School of PBC, an esteemed school founded by the Central Bank in the early 1980s. With the mission of promoting excellence in the finance industry and financial regulation through top-notch education and cutting-edge research, Tsinghua PBCSF, following advanced education modes of international financial programs and business schools, is committed to building a world-class platform for financial education and finance and policy research. in Finance, Master of Finance, Undergradutate Minor, Dual-Degree Finance MBA, Finance EMBA, Global Finance GFD, and Executive Education programs. 2026 Tsinghua PBCSF Chief Economists Forum Successfully Held

On September 19, the 2026 Tsinghua PBCSF Chief Economists Forum was successfully held under the theme “Global Rebalancing and Re-Architecturing of the International Monetary System.”

Bringing together 20+ leading economists and chief economists, the Forum explored global economic rebalancing, China’s economic development, RMB internationalization, and the evolving international monetary system through keynote speeches and four expert roundtables.

The discussions offered forward-looking academic insights and policy perspectives on China’s high-quality economic development and the global financial landscape.

Hosted by Tsinghua PBCSF and organized by CIFER, the Forum reached more than 3 million online viewers across platforms.

Could a single policy approach help rebalance China’s economy across multiple dimensions?

At the 2026 Tsinghua PBCSF Chief Economists Forum, Professor Ju Jiandong of Tsinghua PBCSF highlighted three interconnected structural challenges facing China’s economy: the external imbalance in the manufacturing sector, the gap between domestic supply and demand, and fiscal imbalances between central and local governments.

He proposed internationalizing RMB government bonds as a policy approach to rebalancing all three dimensions—while also supporting domestic demand, easing local fiscal pressures, and expanding the global role of RMB-denominated assets.

During the 2026 Tsinghua PBCSF Global Finance Forum, the Global Economic Governance 50 Forum (GEG50) welcomed three new International Fellows:

· Marc Uzan, Founder and Executive Director of the Reinventing Bretton Woods Committee;
· Pawel Kowalewski, Senior Adviser at Narodowy Bank Polski and Advisory Board Member of OMFIF;
· Sopnendu Mohanty, Group CEO of the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN).
