China is one of the world's earliest countries to engage in surveying and mapping, with a long and uninterrupted tradition in this field. Dating back to the Western Han Dynasty (202 B.C. – 8 A.D.), the Mawangdui silk maps unearthed in Changsha, Hunan province, demonstrate a clear understanding of scale and orientation. During the Wei and Jin Dynasties (220–420 A.D.), the prominent cartographer Pei Xiu formulated the "Six Principles of Cartography" (Zhitu Liuti), establishing a systematic standard for mapmaking. Later, during the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty, large-scale national mapping projects were carried out, integrating Chinese and Western surveying methods.
Mapping is a testament to a nation's collective memory, helping us better understand the world and explore the future.

Start of Autumn, the 13th of the 24 solar terms in the traditional Chinese calendar, marks the beginning of autumn. While the season has traditionally been associated with melancholy, Tang Dynasty (618–907) poet Liu Yuxi defied convention:
"Since olden days we feel in autumn sad and drear. But I say spring cannot compete with autumn clear."
Overturning worn-out tropes of autumn, his lines imbue the autumn air with a sense of clarity and optimism.
