When you wash cotton, the fibers soak up water and expand. As they dry, the fibers come closer together, making the fabric tighter and smaller – that's what we call shrinking. It happens because the cotton fibers are kind of adjusting and getting snug after soaking up water. To prevent this, some cotton clothes are treated before you buy them so that they don't shrink as much when you wash them at home.

Garment manufacturing in China has a history that gained momentum in the early 20th century, aligning with the country's industrialization. Significant growth occurred in the late 20th century, fueled by economic reforms and China's integration into global trade. During the 1980s and 1990s, China solidified its position as a major player in the global garment manufacturing sector, capitalizing on its large population and cost-effective labor.

Coastal regions, particularly Guangdong and Zhejiang provinces, emerged as focal points for garment production, attracting both domestic and international manufacturers. China's reputation expanded to cover a diverse range of apparel, from mass-produced basics to high-end fashion.

Despite facing challenges like labor disputes and environmental issues, China's garment manufacturing sector continues to be a powerhouse in the global fashion supply chain. Its evolution mirrors the country's transition from an agrarian economy to a manufacturing giant.

Cotton production kicks off with picking the cotton, either by hand or with machinery. Once harvested, the cotton goes through ginning to separate seeds from fibers. Cleaned cotton fibers get compressed into bales and shipped to textile mills.

In these mills, fibers are aligned through carding, removing impurities. The carded fibers then get spun into yarn, forming the base for fabric.

This yarn is woven or knitted to create fabric, which undergoes finishing processes like bleaching, dyeing, and printing. After these steps, the fabric is checked for quality and sent for garment production.

The journey from cotton picking to fabric processing involves a series of steps, combining traditional techniques and modern technology to produce the cotton textiles found in our everyday clothing.

The T-shirt, initially an undershirt for the U.S. Navy in the early 20th century, transformed into a cultural icon by the 1950s, thanks to figures like Marlon Brando. In the '60s, it became a symbol of rebellion, evolving into a platform for self-expression and protest.

The graphic tee gained popularity in the '80s, featuring logos and pop culture references.

Today, the T-shirt serves as a versatile canvas, reflecting fashion trends, personal statements, and societal changes.

From its practical roots to an emblem of style and expression, the T-shirt has woven itself into the fabric of global fashion.

How tariffs work and the effect they can have on economies.

I'm not the biggest fan of the BBC these days, but this article here really shows the power of the tariff especially in the garment manufacturing business. You can read the original here https://www.bbc.com/news/business-54164397 if you so wish, but I was going to just break it down a bit and evalua...

5 Dos & 5 Don'ts when buying from the Mega Shopping Mall thats Yiwu, Zhejiang. Custom Backpack Manufacturing in the belly of the beast.

A lot of people hate on Yiwu and I don't think its fair. Yiwu has its place in the custom backpack manufacturing world, as well as pretty much everything else under the sun. If I had a penny for all the times people had said to me. "You can't manufacture backpacks in Yiwu, China." Well I honestly wo...
