China University of Petroleum (CUP) is a state key comprehensive university under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and a member of “211 Project” and “985 innovation platform for superiority subject” universities. n, the four petroleum and petrochemical companies (CNPC, Sinopec, CNOOC, and CHEMCHINA) and the People’s Government of Shandong Province. Acclaimed as “acradle of technology talents for petroleum industry”, our university is an important base of training high-level talents for petroleum and petrochemical industry. It has developed into an engineering-oriented, multiple disciplines coordinately-developed university with distinctive petroleum and petrochemical characteristics. Beijing Petroleum Institute, founded in 1953, is the first petroleum institution of higher education, defined as a state key university in October 1960. The university moved to Dongying in 1969 where the Shengli Oil Field is located with its name changed to East China Petroleum Institute. The university was renamed University of Petroleum in 1988 with two campuses respectively in Shandong and Beijing, and entered into the national “211 Project” universities in 1997. In 2000, University of Petroleum was put under the Ministry of Education’s administration by CNPC and found graduate school approved by the former in June of the same year. In October 2003, the Ministry of Education and the four petroleum and petrochemical companies signed an agreement of co-establishing University of Petroleum. The university’s project of establishing Qingdao campus was approved by the Ministry of Education in August 2004 and the university changed its name into China University of Petroleum in January 2005. In August 2005, the Ministry of Education also signed an agreement of co-establishing China University of Petroleum (Huadong) with the People’s Government of Shandong Province. China University of Petroleum (Huadong) has two campuses respectively in Dongying and Qingdao. Qingdao campus locates in Qingdao, a city enjoying high reputation such as “city of sailing”, “city by the sea”. The campus has not only sophisticated school-running conditions, but also beautiful scenery. Dongying campus lies in Dongying, the central city on the Yellow River delta, also known as city of ecology and city of petroleum. The campus has not only first-class production, education & research base, but also the charming HuicuiLake. China University of Petroleum has 5 state key disciplines, and 2 state key cultivating disciplines, 6 post-doctor stations, 11 first-grade disciplines for conferring doctoral degrees and 44 doctoral programs. It is entitled to confer Master's degrees in 150 programs and 20 engineering programs including MBA, MTI and MPAcc and bachelor's degrees in 54specialties. The disciplines cover every aspect of petroleum and petrochemical industry and subjects related to petroleum are in a leading position in China. Our university has Graduate School, 13 faculties (School of Geosciences, School of Petroleum Engineering, College of Chemical Engineering, College of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, College of Information and Control Engineering, College of Pipeline and Civil Engineering, College of Computer and Communication Engineering, College of Economics and Management, College of Science, College of Arts, School of Marxism, College of International Education,Department of Physical Education), School of Military Reserve Officers, College of Distance and Continuing Education, College of Training and College of Applied Technology. Focusing on the education of undergraduates, the university has a complete education system and a reasonable structure of various education levels. The employment rate of graduates maintains over 90% for consecutive 18 years so that the university was conferred the title of “national advanced unit of employment” in 2004 and was selected to be one of the 50 top universities that have much experience in graduates employment in 2011. Since its birth, our university has cultivated more than 200,000 graduates for petroleum and petrochemical industry and national economic development. Our university has 1566 teachers, among whom 832 professors and associate professors, 155 doctoral supervisors. Among them, there are 6 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 9 distinguished professors from the “Thousand Talents Program”, the “Changjiang Scholars Program” and the National “Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project”, 7 distinguished professors from the “Taishan Scholar” and oversea university, 16 professors from the “Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University”, 12 “National Renowned Teacher” and “Renowned Teacher in Shandong Province”, 5 “National Excellent Teacher”, 4 winners of the “Science and Technology Award for Chinese Youth”, “Excellent Youth Teacher Prize Awarded by Ministry of Education” and “Excellent Youth Teacher Prize Awarded by HuoYingdong Education Foundation”and 10 winners of the “Youth Expert with Excellent Contribution in Shandong Province”. Two academic innovation teams found themselves in the “Program for Changjiang Scholars and Innovative Research Team” conducted by the Ministry of Education, and another two innovation teams were chosen as the “Excellent Innovation Groups in Shandong province”. More than 10 researching fields of the university have reached international and domestic leading level. There are 40 state, provincial and ministerial key laboratories and research center including state key laboratory of heavy oil, MOE engineering research center of oil-gas processing technology and MOE engineering research center of new petroleum and petrochemical equipment and technology. Our university puts much emphasis on the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements. Shandong Shida Science and Technology Group and Shandong ShidaShenghua Chemical Group are the state high-tech enterprises and the pilot test bases and industrial test bases for petroleum and petrochemical industry. During the period of “the eleventh five-year plan”, the university got 286 new programs including state key program of science and technology, national science and technology support program, “863 program”, “973 program” and program of national natural science foundation, 179 of which won Prize for Science and Research over provincial and ministerial level and 7 of which won National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology. The university insists on running the school open to the society. It extends the fields in social service and development space, having signed all-round collaborative agreements with 40 local governments and big enterprises and institutions. The university also pays great attention to international exchanges and cooperation. It has established relationships of exchanges and cooperation with about 50 colleges and universities and academic institutions across 20 countries and regions including USA, UK and Australia. Besides, the university has invited about 100 famous experts and celebrities as adjunct professor, honorary professor and visiting professor. In the new period, the university will strive for the goal of “building a country-famous high-level researching university with its petroleum disciplines reaching the world's first-class level, making greater contributions to building a powerful country in the field of human resources and higher education
